Policies

Please read everything in this section before going to our listings. Horse Rescue Relief (HRR) does not sell horses, but rather adopts them out to suitable and approved homes. HRR horses cannot be resold, rehomed or bred and should the need arise and you are no longer able to care for these animals they must be returned to HRR (adoption fees will not be refunded). Potential adopters may test ride a horse twice before making a decision. An Adoption Application is required.

Adoption Fees

Assigned to each horse based on their capabilities and help defer the costs incurred by their rescue and rehabilitation.

Seeing a Horse

Horses are shown to prospective adopters by appointment.

Foster Homes

Some horses require extended healing time, have a condition that needs rehabilitation or are just suitable as companion horses. Note: No rideable horses are eligible for foster care. Foster care means you house the horse at either your home or an approved boarding facility and pay all that horse’s expenses, which are tax deductible. If you would like to foster a horse, please fill out and submit our adoption application (Write FOSTER at the top.)

Horse Sponsors

Any HRR horse is eligible for sponsorship. The fee helps to offset costs while the horse is at HRR. Sponsors receive a photo and history of their horse along with being acknowledged on the web site. Sponsors are welcome to come and visit their horses.

Our Surrendering Policy

Will Horse Rescue Relief (HRR) take my horse? The circumstances that HRR will take on a horse are reasonably specific. We accept equines that have been abused, neglected or abandoned, directly from these circumstances. We DO NOT have any legal rights to remove horses from their homes unless their owners willingly surrender them to our care.

We may take any that you have yourself saved from this situation if there is still much rehabilitation to be done and you are unable to keep it for any reason. The acceptance policy stands base on space availibility. We may also take on horses found wandering and will attempt to find their owners in conjunction with the local Rangers.

Horses that have been left at agistment with fees unpaid and owners not coming to see them are also able to be surrendered to us in the event the agistment owner is AUTHORIZED to do so by their local Ranger or an RSPCA Inspector, or other authoritive body.

If you own a horse and you have hit a decline in health, financial, or family difficulty, and are unable to feed or support your equine for any reason and there are no other options for the equine, we may take it in if you wish to surrender it.

If your equine is looking very poor and you are just unable to keep it looking healthy because you cannot afford to or do not know what to do, we can either offer you advice on the best way to bring it back to full health or we may accept the animal as a surrender. Please note however, if you surrender a horse to us, as with all HRR horses, it belongs to the organisation for life — you cannot buy it back in the future; however, you are entitled to apply to adopt the equine if you meet the Adoption requirements through HRR in the future.

It is possible that we may have surrendered horses humanely euthanased on a Foster Property and the body collected by suitably equipped persons should a surrendered equine be suffering unduly or rapidly declining in health. All euthanasia of HRR equines is always on Veterinary consultation and recommendation, and conducted by trained professionals to ensure a quick, stress-free and painless passing. All requests to surrender an equine to HRR are considered on a case by case basis and ALL surrenders are subject to available resources at the time of request.

If HRR is unable to accept your horse as a surrender we are willing to assist you to resolve your situation and have in many cases been able to help owners find new homes for their horses. How do I surrender a horse? If you wish to surrender your equine to our care, please contact us either by phone or email and we will organise somebody to come from any one of our assocociated rescues and assess your situation as soon as practical.
